guidelines

There is no such thing as an universal guideline.

Our guidelines have been copied multiple times until now and can be found all over the internet, but guidelines have to be custom-built in any case!

The problem with the standards:

Guidelines are not norms. They are actually great tools for improvement!
(Markus Groll)

The basic requirements for a project compendium/guideline always have  to be complemented with the specific requirements and demands of the the current project.

In the early 90ties, when CAD-Systems got more and more established in architectural and engineering offices noboday realized that without comprehensive structure of the CAD data the technological advantage melts down to nothing. Today CAD-data are standard in every building project. But it seems,  that there is still a well-guarded principle: "Every drafts-person is an island"

Three main factors still lead to chaotic structures:
  1. No user training
  2. No project standards for CAD, CAFM, and software interoperability...
  3. No one cares!

WITHOUT ...

  • Introduction to the stakeholders
  • Assistance and training for the users
  • Controlling of results and quality
  • Thorough implementation into the project and the specific organization
  • Constant optimization

projects are doomed to fail short-term and long-term.

Elaborate, customized and well-defined standards...

are the key components to...

    1. work more efficiently
    2. avoid unnecessary coordination efforts among planners
    3. minimize work loads
    4. deliver a digital documentation that can be handled easily
    5. avoid misunderstandings between planners and people on the construction site
    6. stay competitive...
